What is a protection (restraining) order?
A protection order is an order, issued by a court, which can prohibit one party from contacting another party (the protected party) and/or provide other relief. Pursuant to ORC 3113.31(C), A person who has been the victim of domestic violence from a dating partner or a family member or household member may seek a DVCPO on their own behalf, or on behalf of a family member or household member.

There are several paths available for filing a Petition for a Domestic Violence Civil Protection Order including contacting law enforcement, completing a Petition at the courthouse, or getting assistance from a victim advocate.
